The Livestock Development Department said last week that the Kingdom was on track to export 15,000 tonnes worth Bt2.56 billion this year.

Wimolporn Thitisak, director of standardisation at the Animal Products and Inspection Services Bureau, said the major export markets for Thai pork were Japan, Singapore and Hong Kong. The major export products are processed pork, frozen pork and chilled pork.

Japan imports mostly processed pork products while Hong Kong imports both frozen and chilled pork and processed pork.

The country's total export value reached Bt1.49 billion and 11,581 tonnes in volume last year. Total export value achieved Bt1.13 billion or 7,820 tonnes during the first eight months this year.

Wimolporn added that the department was also encouraging Thais to consumer more pork. It believes consumption will increase from 11.73 kilograms per person last year to 12.29 kilograms this year, with total consumption reaching 772,280 tonnes.
