THE VOICE OF THE UK PIG INDUSTRY

NPA is active on members' behalf in Brussels & Whitehall, and with processors, supermarkets & caterers - fighting for the growth and pros-perity of the UK pig industry.

“An enthusiastic and professional pig industry has evolved in recent years,“ explains NFU’s Simon Fisher in a note to NFU members in the East Midlands.

“A small site taking batches of 1000 pigs can expect to generate income before costs, in the region of 325,000 a year and manure with a fertiliser replacement value of possibly another 33,000 next year, not to mention the heart it provides the fields. There are those who say this is half a ton an acre.

“The pigs are still owned by the breeder, who also supplies feed, veterinary and technical support - a significant capital commitment. Often existing under-utilised buildings can be adapted. Risk and exposure is limited. In some cases cereals are purchased and collected by lorries delivering feed, adding value.“

If you know someone who would be interested in signing up for the event please give them this phone number: 01572 824264. The venue is the Carre Arms at Sleaford, 2pm-4pm. The meeting is limited to 25 attendees, but if oversubscribed future meeting dates will be arranged.
