Russia’s meat production up 4 pct
MOSCOW - Russia’s meat production in January-September grew by four percent on the year, Agriculture Minister Alexei Gordeyev said in response to questions from an Internet audience on the rost.ru web-site.
In real terms Russia’s meat production grew by 5,700 tonnes.
“The best rates were observed in pig breeding – about six percent. Major pig breeding farms increased production by 12.5 percent.
The leading meat producing regions are the Belgorod, Lipetsk, Penza and Moscow regions and the Krasnodar territory.
“We have managed to reverse the negative trend in dairy products manufacturing. Last year the dairy industry showed a four percent decline in production,” Gordeyev said.
Faster livestock farming development is one of the aims of the agro-industrial complex development national project. It is expected to push up the production of meat by 7 percent, and of milk, by 4.5 percent over a period of two years.
