Australian authorities approved imports of fresh pork for further heat treatment following an inspection by the country’s veterinary authorities in September last year.

It imported more than 72,000 tonnes of pig meat last year, with the majority coming from Canada, Denmark and the United States.

But it is expected to need to bring in 10% more this year after severe drought cut domestic pig production.
