Commenting on his appointment Tim Rymer, JSR Chairman said "We are delighted to have secured the services of a very experienced international industry specialist. As we have experienced in Russia there is a big demand for high quality UK stock and expertise and we intend to build on our market leading commitment to the UK by growing JSR Genetics business in China".

Jeff Shi, a pig consultant for the past 26 years and latterly with PIC, is enthusiastic about the opportunities represented by the Chinese market. Although accounting for the largest population of sows in the world at 50million, Jeff is quick to point out that only 20% of these are "western" breeds and that infrastructure and logistics will play a large part in initial developments. "We have teamed up with a local partner, who is well established in the country, to develop integrated supply chains to supply an already rationalized processing sector. We can demonstrate the higher lean meat content of our carcasses and this will drive added value to producers"

Grant Walling JSR Research and Development Director is enthusiastic about the opportunities to further strengthen JSR's R&D programme "Our R&D research programme will continue to expand here in the UK but now be strengthened through working with producers and processors from key markets around the world. We are entering a new phase of globalization and JSR will be at the forefront, bringing benefits to producers around the world"
