Pork companies comply with antitrust requests

US - Smithfield Foods and Premium Standard Farms announced late Monday that they had completed their response to the U.S. Justice Department's "second request" for information in the government's antitrust investigation of their proposed merger.

The pork companies said that each has certified "substantial compliance" with the requests from the department's antitrust division.

They said they hoped for approval from the division by the end of the first quarter of 2007.
