Foot-And-Mouth Disease Hits N Vietnam

VIETNAM - Vietnam's northern provinces of Thai Nguyen and Quang Ninh have been struck down with foot-and-mouth disease, according to a local veterinary agency.

The disease was reported in Dai Tu district in Thai Nguyen on April 12, and affected six bulls and buffaloes, and 14 pigs. Livestock in the districts of Ba Che and Tien Yen in Quang Ninh have also been affected since early April, said the Department of Animal Health under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.

The provincial Veterinary Bureaus have culled all infected animals, and carried out cleaning and disinfection on all the affected farms.

The disease is currently afftecting 12 communes in five provinces, namely, Thai Nguyen and Quang Ninh in the north, and Phu Yen, Gia Lai and Ha Tinh in the central region, said the department.
