US - State officials say they are trying to track down about 50 consumers believe to have received pork from pigs exposed to melamine-tainted feed, even though they believe any health risk is low.

Those customers would have purchased the meat through American Hog Farm in Ceres or Bar None in Half Moon Bay, both of which operate custom slaughterhouses, which sell custom-ordered meats only to individuals for personal use, according to the California Department of Food and Agriculture.

State Health Services officials recommend pork from the pigs in question not be consumed. However, if the pork has already been eaten, California Public Health Officer Dr. Mark Horton considers the health risks to be minimal.

Melamine-contaminated pet foods have been implicated in the recent deaths of a number of pet cats and dogs, triggering a widespread recall of products.
