GENOA, Neb. - Tests on domesticated swine at operations near Genoa in east-central Nebraska show the pigs to be free of pseudorabies, the state Department of Agriculture reported on Friday.

The swine were tested after wild pigs killed last month in Nance County tested positive for pseudorabies.
Pseudorabies is a contagious viral disease that, while not considered a threat to humans, can devastate pork operations. Symptoms include respiratory illness, trembling, sudden death of piglets and pregnant female aborting.
The department warned that there are still wild pigs in the area, and that producers should be vigilant about watching their hogs for any symptoms.
