Pigs at a farm in north-central Wisconsin have tested positive for a form of herpes virus.

Jane Larson of the Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection says results from blood samples should be available this week.

Officials detected the disease during routine screening of a pig being sent for slaughter. Larson says the affected farm was quarantined and additional pigs are being tested.

Larson says the virus can cause reproductive problems. She says it's most common in pigs but can also affect cattle, horses and other animals.
