JSR Titan pigs star in Greek Odyssey

UK - Pigs from Britain's leading pig breeding company, JSR Genetics, are proving to be big business in Greece, where the Yorkshire company's franchise business, F-One Hellas, is set to expand across the country.

This follows unprecedented interest in JSR's Titan Sireline boar, Genepacker 90 gilts, as well as a number of locally produced H.C. boars and an XL41 boar at the Zootechnia Exhibition, on Thessaloniki where they were on display for the first time earlier this year.

Far bigger than the UK's Pig & Poultry Fair, the bi-annual Greek event attracted nearly 43,000 visitors, with the JSR/F-One Hellas stand providing one of the two-day weekend show's most popular highlights.

Paul Anderson, European Sales Director for JSR Genetics, said afterwards: "It was one of the busiest events I have ever attended, with a high level of interested farmers wishing to discuss the potential of the JSR Genetic lines."

Mr Anderson added that many new and existing customers placed orders at the show and 37 Titan Boars and 320 Genepacker 90 gilts have already been successfully delivered to F-One Hellas, where they will remain until they have reached their finishing weight. They will then be distributed across the country.

The show provided the first opportunity to show off the JSR pigs in Greece since the franchise with F-One Hellas was signed in 2006 and director and owner George Pontikes was so pleased with the level of interest, the number of inquiries about breeding stock and the business he did at the show that he has confirmed his plans to extend his activities nationally.
