The BPHS has been running for two years and is due to continue until June next year so it is time to examine its value. Producers and vets are being approached to discuss how they used the reports and how it could be amended to make it even more useful.

The programme has been financed by BPEX, Defra, animal health companies, vets and producers.

BPHS Chairman Howard Revell said: "This scheme is an essential element of the BPEX Health and Welfare Strategy.

"It has already proved its worth and has made a positive contribution to individual businesses by improving herd health. "But there is still more that can be done and that's why we are going out to producers and vets who are at the sharp end to take advantage of their practical experience with the system to improve it still further."

Members of the BPEX Knowledge Transfer team or one of the scheme sponsors will be getting in touch with selected producers and vets to discuss ideas about the scheme.

BPEX is grateful to the following animal health companies for their sponsorship of the scheme:

  • Boehringer Ingelheim, Elanco, Fort Dodge,
  • Intervet, Janssen Animal Health and Pfizer.
