Portugal: Swine vesicular disease outbreak confirmed
PORTUGAL - It has been confirmed a pig farm in the area of Monte Cevacedo (Alte Alentejo province) in East Portugal recently suffered an outbreak of Swine Vesicular disease (SVD).
The outbreak was initially noticed on June 7 and officially confirmed to the OIE on June 26.
The farm housed a total of 1,812 pigs which have since been destroyed and in accordance EU Council Directive 92/119 a protection zone of 3km radius from the infected holding, and a surveillance zone of 10km radius has been put in place.
