Seminars focus on rising feed costs

ILLINOIS- Increasing concerns about the rising price of corn has prompted Illinois pork Producers Association to sponsor two seminars at the University of Illinois on managing costs.

Titled 'Managing Feed Costs with High Feed Prices', the sessions will offer production and management strategies that producers can use to minimize the effects of higher feed costs on their profitability.
Topics under discussion will be:

  • Economic impact of rising grain prices
  • Ways to lower feed costs
  • Recommendations on feeding DDGs (by-products from ethanol production)
  • Re-formulating diets
  • Improving feed conversion
Speakers will include pig specialists from the University, independant consultant Dr Mike Brumm and Dr Chris Hurt of Purdue University.

The seminars will be June 12 at the Bureau County Metro Center, 837 Park Ave. West, Princeton, and June 13 at the Decatur Conference Center and Hotel, 4191 US 36 West, Decatur. Registrations are open now.
