Hypor Geneticist assumes additional responsibilities

Hypor North America today announced that Dr. Patrick K. Charagu, Geneticist North America and China will assume the leadership of the North American Technical Services Team. This appointment is another step towards the full integration of the company's Research and Development and Technical Services Divisions.

"Dr. Charagu joined the Hypor product development group in 2002 from Lethbridge, Alberta, where he was involved in researching the genetics of carcass and meat quality. Having received his Master of Science in Animal Science, Genetics and Animal Breeding, in Nairobi, Kenya in 1992, Charagu earned his Ph.D. in Animal Sciences, Genetics and Animal Breeding from the University of British Columbia in 1998.

He completed a postdoctoral research fellowship with Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada at the Lethbridge Research Centre. Dr. Char agu has published several scientific papers, abstracts and technical articles and is a skilled educator, presenter and lecturer.

“We are pleased that Patrick has agreed to assume this extra responsiblility,” said Gerjan van Alst, General Manager North America and Asia excluding China, “His combination of technical expertise and practical experience in genetic improvement, coupled with his 15 years of livestock research gives him a sound foundation from which to lead our Technical Services team.”

“This appointment builds on the integration of Hypor’s Technical Services and Research and Development divisions which began several months ago,” said Benny van Haandel, Manager, R&D and Breeding Hypor. “The consolidation of resources will lead to faster and more accurate responses to the needs of our global market."

Hypor North America today announced the appointment of a new Research and Development assistant. Lanny Ziola a Saskatchewan born native obtained his Bachelor of Science (honours) Microbiology and Biotechnology degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 2007.

As Research Assistant, Ziola will report to Dr. Patrick Charagu, Hypor’s Geneticist for North America and China, and his responsibilities will include overseeing some regular routines in the breeding program, assisting nucleus personnel in various aspects of the breeding program including implementation and coordination of R & D trials and the processing and analyses of R& D data.

The appointment of Ziola to this position reflects Hypor’s commitment to improving its genetically superior breeding stock by building a team of individuals with exemplary professional skills.
