US - October is National Pork Month, and the Ohio Pork Producers Council and Ohio's hog farmers are joining colleagues across the country to celebrate.

Ohio is ninth in the nation for pork production and has almost 4,000 family hog farms across the state.

"National Pork Month is a time to promote delicious pork products," said Ray Noecker, president of the board for the Ohio Pork Producers Council. "It is also a great opportunity to recognize Ohio's hog farmers' dedication and commitment to the pork industry and to their local communities."

Ohio has about 1.6 million head of hogs and pigs in the state, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service.
