Last year the people of Great Britain ate their way through a staggering 180,000 tonnes of sausages and even more are expected to be consumed in 2007.

Cricket's King of Spin Phil Tufnell (pictured) is swapping his title to become King of Sizzle for the week, as he searches out a swag suitable of the title Best Birthday Banger in Britain.

"I'm so chuffed to be involved in British Sausage Week and the fact that it's the tenth anniversary makes it particularly special," said Phil.

I absolutely love sausages and can't wait to get out on the road sampling the best that Britain has to offer,"

Anyone can enter, from butchers, students, school cooks and chefs, to mums who know what makes a truly special sausage. The only rule is that you have to be fanatical about sausages.

The British Sausage Appreciation Society will then travel up and down the country throughout with 'Tuffers' in tow, to judge the finalists in a taste test competition.
