DA ready for incidence of animal diseases during rainy days
PHILIPPINES - In anticipation of the outbreak of diseases during the onset of rainy season, the Department of Agriculture has been taking measures and has come up with steps to address such concerns, reports the PIA.
Agriculture regional executive director Roger Chio said DA has designed strategies to control and prevent the spread of animal diseases during rainy days.
Based on a study, extreme conditions, either cold or hot bring high incidence of animal diseases. The study also showed the proliferation of insects, mechanical vectors, carrier of bacteria and viral diseases as well as external and internal parasites during rainy days.
DA stated some incidence of animal diseases such as Hemorrhagic Septicemia, Liverfluke in ruminants, Hog Cholera for swine and Avian pest in poultry.
As part of the government strategies, DA will reactivate the technical working group to undertake strategic planning on the adverse effect of the rainy season or La Nina. It will conduct information and education campaign in coordination with the local government units as well as coordinate with the non-government organizations for proper disease surveillance and close monitoring for possible outbreak of any animal diseases following the rainy season.
DA will also intensify rules and regulations on quarantine measures as well as provide biologics, drugs and antibiotics to provinces and cities of region eleven.
