The meeting aimed to bring producers up to speed on the existing government programs available to those experiencing financial stress.

Michael Brine of Agricorp explained the interim payment option available to participating producers through the CAIS program. For those experiencing cash flow difficulties, he suggested they apply for an interim payment instead of waiting until their fiscal year.

“As long as you are more than six months into your fiscal year, you can apply for an interim payment,” he said. He provided advice on what to consider and how to apply, including:

  1. Applications can be made now for an interim payment for the 2007 program year, and also for the 2008 program year if the business's fiscal year ends before June.
  2. To apply for an interim payment, producers must already have completed and submitted the previous year’s CAIS application. If the application is for a 2007 program year interim payment, then a 2006 CAIS application must be completed and processed by Agricorp.
  3. If an interim payment is received that exceeds the final payment, then the difference must be paid back.
