The Yorkshire Agricultural Society has donated 35,000 to a national appeal which offers help and support to farmers across the country.

The Farming Help Partnership is a collaboration of several agricultural charities, providing a number of services to meet a wide range of needs in the farming community.

The Society, also a charity, is best-known as the organiser of the Great Yorkshire Show but also works hard to promote and sustain the agricultural community.

Mr Bill Cowling, Honorary Show Director, said: "The Society is delighted to make this donation to the Farming Help Appeal. Our agricultural industry and its wellbeing are at the core of everything we do, and our farmers experienced some very hard times in 2007.

"By helping them to overcome their difficulties now, we are ensuring the success of British agriculture in the future."

As well as foot-and-mouth disease in the south of England and Bluetongue, farmers also had to contend with bad weather, flooding and poor harvest yields.

The Farming Help Appeal is also backed by other agricultural organisations such as the National Farmers' Union and Country Landowners' Association.
