EU - Pig prices throughout Europe are reported as patchy way this week. While the movement is clearly upwards (plus 8 euro-cents) in Spain, slaughter companies in Germany are putting the brakes on.

As a consequence, prices are not developing, says market monitor Schweine.net. Other countries are being affected by the unpredictable trend although, prices are expected to increase moderately in the Netherlands and France. Danish prices showed upturn with increases again this week. And across Europe, the situation for the finished pig market is being regarded as quite steady.

Purchasers report that they are still in no position to completely realise price increases in meat sales, but all the meat on offer is being placed on the market quickly. There are reports from several Dutch market experts about some margin growth in respect to major carcase cuts.

Trend: As validity of the private storage system has been decided to be extended in Brussels last week, the situation is much more relaxed on the market currently. Prices are expected to remain steady at least.
