Pork Expo Offers Youngsters Show Certification

US - Missouri youngsters who want to show swine this summer should plan to attend this year's Missouri Pork Expo, which takes place Feb. 20-21 at the Holiday Inn Executive Center in Columbia.

Those up to age 21, including FFA and 4-H members, who are interested in showing swine at state and county levels can get their required Show Me Quality Assurance certification by attending "In the Show Ring" on 20 February. The daylong workshop will cover pig care and health, nutrition, disease prevention, and showmanship and handling skills.

Participants will also visit the Trowbridge Livestock Centre on the University of Missouri campus for discussions on nutrition and health, and some hands-on training in preparation techniques.

Food safety, injection techniques, timing, medications and practical safety issues are also be on the agenda.

The workshop is free for young people and members of the Missouri Pork Association. The fee is US$10 for other adults.
