The Berwick manager, Mike Lee, told CBC News that his plant has had trouble finding pigs in the Maritimes, but he is now expecting an increase in throughout by about 1,800 hogs a week from P.E.I. producers as of 1 April.

He said the increased production could mean jobs for out of work islanders from Natural Organic Food Group, the company which owned the beleagured PEI plant.

"We've asked the plant manager over there to put up a posting. Certainly if anyone is interested we'd be more than happy to talk to them," Lee said.
