The MOU covers all livestock applications including swine, poultry, lamb and cattle markets in Australia, New Zealand and various Asian Pacific regions.

The MOU highlights the steps required to be undertaken by each party before the formal sales and distribution agreement is finalised.

Pork Plus Inc. has developed an Omega-3 technology and husbandry programme that allows for specific levels of Omega-3 levels to be incorporated into the meat to achieve label claims while contributing to the animals' health and productivity.

In addition, their proprietary technology has enabled pork producers in PEI Canada to access niche value-added markets with Omega-3 enhanced pork products.

"Consumers are become savvy when searching for products deemed to provide health benefits and are willing to pay premiums for these products. Meat cuts offering enhanced Omega-3 content are currently a hot commodity in consumer markets," said Dr London, CEO and Managing Director of Stirling Products.

Stirling Products North America, trading as Progressive BioActives Inc in Australia, recently became the distribution agent for the Pork Plus Omega-3 product in Canada (as reported on 20 November, 2007).

Mr Shane Patelakis, President of Stirling Products North America, Canada said: "The demand for niche products like natural and Omega-3 enhanced pork and chicken has increased over the last few years and demand for such has set the standards for high quality alternatives in the livestock industry. We are excited STI-NA will have an opportunity to explore and participate in this new potential revenue source for Stirling."

Stirling will undertake due diligence to determine the market potential and level of support in Australia. Omega-3 pork in particular is seen as a niche product that has already received some interest in Australia and the potential exists to provide the Australian public with a value-added functional food.
