Reports in the US press and media say the pigs that had escaped from their flooded farm were shot by the police on top of the sandbagged levee.

The police in Des Moines County were concerned that the pigs would damage the levee, according to the reports.

The pigs were said to be having difficulties on the sandbags and ran back into the water as people approached.
