United Kingdom Slaughter Statistics - October 2008

UK - The numbers of clean pigs and sows and boars sent for slaughter in the UK during September lowered slightly on the July and August figures, according to the latest figures from the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

In September 697,000 clean pigs went for slaughter compared to 670,000 in June and 846,000 in July, where August was a four week month.

The number of sows and boars sent for slaughter in September were 18,000 compared to 16,000 in August and 19,000 in July.

The average carcase weights rose ever so slightly at 77.6 kg in September while the sow and boar average slaughter weight lowered to 151.3 kg in September compared to 155.4 kg in August.

In total, the UK produced 57,000 tonnes of pigmeat during September compared to 54,000 tonnes in Ausgust, 67,000 tonnes in July and 53,000 tonnes in June.
