Pig Farmers to Launch National Campaign
IRELAND - Irish pig farmers are set to launch a national campaign in an effort to reclaim the home market.Speaking at a meeting in Cavan on Tuesday night, IFA pigs committee chairman Michael Maguire said producers were on their knees due to a price drop of 16c/kg in six weeks.
"These drops bring producers from a position of repaying the debts of last year's crisis in the sector back to break-even or below," Mr Maguire said.
He called on millers and merchants to drop compound feed prices in light of prices being paid to Irish grain growers.
The Irish Independent reports that the catering and food service sectors are also to be targeted.
