KYRGYZSTAN - According to Kyrgyzstan's Foodretail.ru website, China is to cut down pork exports to the country.

According to 24, the main reason for the export cutdowns are rise in pigstry, closure of numerous pig-breeding farms and destructive earthquakes in the Sichuan province – the biggest Chinese pig-breeding area - in May 2008.

In January-August 2008 China sold 50,000 tons of pork abroad, whereof 4,800 tons was sold to Kyrgyzstan, 20 percent less than for the same period last year.
