EU Pig Prices: Steady Price Levels

EU - When looking at this week’s demand and supply on the European slaughter pig market, the situation is found to be well balanced to a large extent.

No clear trend can be seen throughout Europe. The prices mostly stabilised on their pre-Christmas levels.

In the Netherlands as well as in Belgium, Austria and in Germany the corrected quotations maintained their last week’s levels. The Spanish and French quotations fell by a corrected 2 cents. The Danish quotations fell by 2.5 cents, going down to a corrected 1.27 euros per kg slaughter weight. The Swedish quotation went up by a corrected 4 cents, however if compared with the other European countries, Sweden still ranks last.

Trend: This week, prices are expected to remain steady to the most part. The pigs-mature-for-slaughter supply going slightly down might be attributed to the currently prevailing winterly conditions. By these, some pig fatteners’ readiness to supply is decelerated, because otherwise the temperatures in the stables might not be kept.
