Pork Import Proposal Faces Rejection

INDONESIA - The Bali provincial administration turned down a proposal by a canned-foods company in Bali for the company to import pork from foreign countries.

The refusal was based on concerns that the imported meat might bring diseases into the country and also to protect local pig farmers, reports The Jakarta Post.

"We suggested the company make use of local pigs in Bali because the pigs population is sufficient," head of the Bali Animal Husbandry Agency, Ida Bagus Alit, said in Denpasar on Saturday.
