EU Pig Prices: Northwest Sets a Positive Trend

EU - This week, the European slaughter pig market finds itself in a state of balance.

Many quotations, such as the Spanish, the German and the Austrian ones, are stabilising on the level already achieved. A positive trend is set by the Northwest: The Netherlands, Denmark, France and Belgium report on pigs-mature-for-slaughter prices to increase. There, the live pigs’ quantities are just moderate. In Poland the price increase proves to be a striking 9 cents (corrected). Thus, exports seem to be starting again in the market.

Since the pound is weak presently, the corrected quotation in Great Britain fell slightly although the quotations went up a little all in all. Yet, the highest price for pigs mature for slaughter is still paid in the British Isles. The lowest price at present is paid in Sweden.

Trend: Currently, a shortage of the live pigs’ supply must not be expected. Starting live pigs’ exports to Eastern Europe again is a helpful thing for realising price increases.
