AFBI to Host Northern Ireland Pig Event 2009

NORTHERN IRELAND, UK - The Agri-Food and Biosciences Institute (AFBI) at Hillsborough is to host Northern Ireland Pig Event 2009.

The Northern Ireland Pig Event 2009 will be held on 16 September 2009 at AFBI Hillsborough. This is a key date for the Northern Ireland Pig Industry. The event is being organised by AFBI, CAFRE and the UFU.

Recent AFBI research findings and technological advances will be highlighted in short presentations and interactive displays. A tour of the AFBI Environment and Renewable Energy Centre will be included. CAFRE, UFU, DARD and other industry support bodies will also be present to discuss key issues concerning the Northern Ireland pig industry.

A key feature of the event will be a presentation by Peter Best, editor of the popular magazine, Pig International.

Local butchers will also demonstrate how a pig carcass is split into the various components for the shop shelves.

All involved in the pig industry are invited to attend. Two sessions will be held, the first commencing at 10:00, and the second at 18:00. More details will be circulated closer to the event.
