The prices increased substantially in almost all member countries as regards pigs mature for slaughter. Altogether, the price increases range from a corrected 2 cents in France to 5 cents in Germany. This may mostly be attributed to the falling supply pressure which results from decreasing quantities of pigs on offer.

Surprisingly, the Dutch quotation did not quite follow the German one. They say that the there quantities of live pigs on offer are not quite as limited as they are in Germany. So, there is a chance that increased numbers of Dutch pigs mature for slaughter will be sold to German slaughter companies this week. Positive impetus for the European market is released from Poland, where – according to most recent assessments reported on from Warsaw – the net imports of pork are expected to double this year as a result of decreasing indigenous production.

The situation appears to be quite disappointing in Spain. There, supply in Catalonia is described to be very plentiful still and the price level is said to be very unsatisfying. For this reason, the Spanish demand that EU export reimbursements be reintroduced.

Trend: This week of slaughter being complete, the current supply is seen alongside good demand on the part of the slaughter companies. Everything is indicating further price increases to ensue throughout Europe.
