Pig farm operators in Sabah are required to submit their licence applications before July 1 this year, reports Bernama.

Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Yahya Hussin, added that warning letters would be issued to those who failed to do so, adding that the move was also to facilitate registering of pig farms in the state.

Speaking to reporters after visiting a chicken processing factory at Lok Kawi and a pig farm at Kg. Purak, he said the licence requirement followed enforcement of the Control of Livestock Activities (Pig) Rules 2008, which was gazetted last on 12 February.

He said pig farms which failed to get the licence within the period will be ordered to close.
