EU Pig Prices: Pressure Exerted By Germany
EU - This week, the European slaughter pig market proves to be in quite an ambivalent situation. While quotations continue to go up in a number of countries, some quotations seem to tend towards weakness. Most of the pricing pressure was caused by German slaughter companies which rooted for massive price reductions last week. As a result, Germany’s quotation went down by 6 cents, causing the Dutch, Belgian and Austrian quotations to fall, too.
The quotations in Denmark, Sweden and Spain go on pointing upwards as they do in the Czech Republic and Poland. Thus, the French quotation gets to rank second among the six largest pig-keeping nations in Europe. Denmark continues to bring up the rear at a however considerably reduced distance towards Germany and the Netherlands. The tourists in Spain make demand for pork remain brisk. On top of that, the number of live pigs on offer already gets scarcer as a result of the prevailing heat. Consequently, the slaughter companies’ activities unavoidably need to be reduced.
Trend: The European pigs-mature-for-slaughter market is anticipated to stabilise again next week. With the slaughter companies’ backlog demand, the number of live pigs on offer might even be reduced again.
