ROYAL SHOW - UKECP Boosting Livestock and Meat Exports
UK - A livestock and meat export initiative launched at the Royal Show last year has now seen health certificates granted for products and animals to be traded around the world. The UK Export Certification Partnership became operational in late 2008.
UKECP is an informal working group between the Department of Environment Food and Rural Affairs and the meat and agricultural industries.
It liaises with the UK livestock and livestock products industries to establish export market priorities and provides a forum to discuss the use of Defra agents to negotiate export health certificates.
The partnership also helps in drafting export health certificates, which are usually needed before companies can export.
At the Royal Show in Warwickshire this year the UKECP revealed it has visited countries as far apart as Bahrain, Chile, China, India, Kuwait, Mexico, Oman, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Ukraine and the UAE.
And it has arranged export health certificates for breeding pigs, pig semen, pig meat and products, bovine semen and embryos and beef as well as sheep and goat products and even alpacas.
