Over the summer, work has gained pace on the ‘tool kit’ to support pig producers in the project, including online mapping of pig farms and the veterinary health status survey.

Producers across the region showed strong dedication towards working together to overcome pig health challenges at the project launch meeting in July.

Now a series of local producer meetings has been organised, running between late September and mid October, where the main aim is to form local producer clusters.

All producers are invited to come along and meet others in the neighbouring area. Topics up for discussion include:

  • who might want to work together and form small clusters
  • what level of information sharing people feel comfortable with
  • what diseases people want to tackle
  • what help people need

The first meeting will be on 28 September for producers in the South of the Humber Health District, with further meetings to follow for each of the other Districts:

South Humberside 28 September 19:30 The Fenestra Centre, Flixborough
Beverley & Holderness 1 October 19:30 Gardeners Inn, Coniston
Driffield 7 October 19:00 The Bell, Driffield
Market Weighton 14 October 18:30 The Red Lion,
Holme-On-Spalding-Moor
Scarborough & York 8 October 18:30 Malton Rugby Club
Harrogate & Thirsk 15 October 19:30 The Crown, Boroughbridge

Look out for your meeting invitation, arriving shortly, with further details of when and where your local Health District meeting will be held. Also keep your eye on the YHH website.
