Speaking at the opening of the conference, Ms Luli, who is also president of the China Meat Association, said that the industry needs to strengthen dialogue and coordination on macroeconomic policies.

"It is of great importance for every country to have a regular exchange on the economic situation and policies, so that the risks and challenges of the international economy can be met," she said.

She said that international discussions would help to stabilise global pig meat and food prices, help to prevent trade protectionism and promote a sustainable and stable development of a global economy.

Ms Luli called for a greater exchange of ideas and technology within the worldwide mat industry as well as a deeper cooperation within the industry.

She said that there should be greater efforts to support developing countries to increase their development of new technologies within the industry.

And she added that with a transfer of knowledge of technology from developed to developing countries there could be a "win-win" situation as both sides benefit.

"As a major country in the meat industry, China is dedicated to the stability and development of the international meat market," she told the conference.
