EU Pig Prices: Weakness Around Europe in October

EU - The European slaughter pig market finds itself in the maelstrom of price recession this week.

Over the past few days, considerable pressure was again exerted on the producers’ prices on the part of the slaughter companies. The prices had to be corrected downward by 3 to 5 cents in almost all EU member countries.

In Sweden alone the price remained changeless. Subject to seasonal influences, the most important fall in prices had to be accepted by the Spanish, there being down by as much as minus 5 cents.

Austria referred to the favourable meat imports from Germany, saying that these were the reason for pricing pressure that resulted in price recession. France ranks last on the list this time, having taken over this position from Belgium.

Trend: For the week ahead, no drastic relief is expected to occur on the European pigs-mature-for-slaughter market. In view of good daily growth in pig fattening, supply is anticipated to remain extensive over the next days.
