Citing Meatingplace.com, TheTribune reports that the Greeley-based company wants to construct a multimillion-dollar distribution center at the complex.

Troy Mulger, general manager of the pork plant, told the Marshalltown Times-Republican the refrigerated warehouse's footprint could be as large as 150,000 square feet and would add new jobs. He declined to say how many jobs, noting that the facility also would rely on automated machinery.

A public hearing on JBS's zoning request is scheduled for 15 October.

According to the Times-Republican, JBS would have to acquire additional property to the south of plant. The property in question is a park, and the company reportedly has offered to relocate and replace its recreational facilities.
