Pork Among Eleven Price Control Goods for CNY

MALAYSIA - Pork was among eleven products listed as price control goods for the Chinese New Year celebration from 10-21 February, Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob announced Wednesday.

Ismail Sabri said it was the first time pork was listed under price control goods.

"The price of pork has been set as RM14 in the peninsular, RM10 to RM16 in Sabah and Sarawak and RM20 in Labuan," Mr Sabri said.

He added that since pork was included in the list for the first time, pork sellers must get a special licence issued by the ministry, for free.

Bernama.com reports that among other items under the list are live chicken, standard chicken, super chicken, chicken eggs (grade A, B, C), cabbage imported from Indonesia and China (excluding Beijing cabbage), white pomfret and large banana prawns.

The price of live chicken was set between RM5.85 to RM6.10 a kilogram in the peninsular, RM6.30 to RM8.70 in Sabah, Sarawak and RM6.30 in Labuan, while Standard chicken prices range from RM6.90 to RM7.20 a kilogram in the peninsular, RM9.30 to RM10.30 in Sabah, Sarawak and RM9.30 in Labuan.
