The 'Back to the Future' Knowledge Transfer conference held at the East of England Showground, Peterborough, on 16 March.

Attended by more than 130 producers, allied industry members and journalists, the mood was positive and, with a series of practical presentations from an international line-up of speakers. Producers found much of the information was directly relevant to their business. Australian researcher Paul Hughes' views and experience on gilt management strategies made a particular impact, with 81 per cent of producers intending to go home and consider that area of their system.

BPEX Head of Knowledge Transfer Mike Varley said: "It was great to welcome so many people to the event. The pig industry now has a lot to be proud and positive about, with PCV2 now under control, a better pig price and more options than ever before for training.

"All the speakers provided solid advice and ideas on how we can drive our pig businesses forward for a successful future."
