Pork Production Down Compared to a Year Ago
US - Commercial red meat production for the United States reached 3.92 billion pounds in January, down six per cent from the 4.17 billion pounds produced in January 2009, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) in their monthly Livestock Slaughter report.

Pork production totalled 1.81 billion pounds, 11 per cent below the previous year.
Hog kill totalled 8.90 million head, 10 per cent below January 2009.
The average live weight was unchanged from the previous year, at 272 pounds.
January 2009 contained 22 weekdays (including two holidays) and five Saturdays.
January 2010 contained 21 weekdays (including two holidays) and five Saturdays.
