Pork Production Down Compared to a Year Ago
US - Commercial red meat production for the United States totalled 3.74 billion pounds in February, down two per cent from the 3.83 billion pounds produced in February 2009, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) in their monthly Livestock Slaughter report.Pork production totalled 1.76 billion pounds, down three per cent from the previous year.
Hog kill totalled 8.69 million head, down three per cent from February 2009.
The average live weight was down two pounds from the previous year, at 270 pounds.
January to February 2010 commercial red meat production was 7.65 billion pounds, down four per cent from 2009.
Accumulated pork production was down seven per cent from last year.
February 2009 contained 20 weekdays (including one holiday) and four Saturdays.
February 2010 contained 20 weekdays (including one holiday) and four Saturdays.
