Russia Reports Three New CSF Outbreaks

RUSSIA - The Russian veterinary authorities have reported three new outbreaks in wild boar.

The World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE) received Follow-up Report No.2 on Friday, 26 March.

According to the report, all three outbreaks occured in Voronezhskaya Oblast. In the first outbreak, which took place on 16 February, four cases and deaths were reported; in the second outbreak, which occured on 24 February, three were found to be infected ad killed by the virus and in the third outbreak, which occured on the same date, six animals were found infected and killed by the disease.

The source of the outbreaks is still unknown and under investigation. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and virus sequencing tests were conducted to confirm the presence of the virus.
