The move was to stabilise the price of pork in local markets, its director-general Datuk Dr Abd Aziz Jamaluddin said.

In a statement, Dr Abdul Aziz assured that there would be minimal increase in the price of the meat.

“Production cost of live pigs will increase only slightly, following the increase in the cost of farm animal feed,” he said.

The department is expected to meet pig farmers and wholesalers to ensure that the price would not burden consumers, reports The Star Online.
