Brazil's Pork Exports: Volume Down but Value Higher
BRAZIL - The volume of pork exports was down by six per cent for the first four months of this year compared to the same period last year.Brazil's pig meat exporters' association, ABIPECS, has reported the export figures for the year to April.
For the first four months of the year, pig meat exports were 176,717 tons, which is 6.4 per cent below the corresponding figure for 2009.
The value of those sales, however, was up by 7.5 per cent to just under US$426 million. This makes the average price so far in 2010 to be $2,341, which is 20.6 per cent higher than last year's of $2,027. In 2010, the average monthly price rose sharply from $2,385 in March to $2,579 in April.
