This week again, increasing prices shape the market for European slaughter. Apart from in Sweden, Great Britain and Italy the corrected quotations went up by three to five cents. In Sweden, the quotation remained unchanged once more. In Great Britain, a slightly upward movement was observed. As a result of exchange rate changes, the Swedish corrected version went down by two cents, whereas the corrected price remained unchanged in Great Britain. For the sixth time in a row, the price remained unchanged in Italy.

In France, they say that the five-cent price increase is a result of good demand; there, the quantities of pork on offer go beyond those of this time last year. The domestic business in Spain is said to be unsatisfactory but exports to Eastern Europe resulted in prices up by four cents in Spain. Everywhere else in Europe, the prices are said to have increased as a result of good domestic business on the basis of increased barbecuing activities and improved exports.

Trend: Good demand for pork makes marketing of the limited supply of pigs for slaughter easy. The export business benefits from the weak euro, so exports towards Russia in particular have increased. Thus, the prices are expected to remain steady or even increase this week.
