While the prices remain unchanged in most of those countries where quotations went down last week, like in Germany, the prices went down by three cents each in Denmark, the Netherlands and in Great Britain. Sweden is the only exception. There, the quotation went up by a corrected 2.5 cents. As a result of Great Britain’s price decrease, Spain now ranks first within the European price structure.

By reason of the enormous pressure exerted by the slaughter companies, the price went down again in the Netherlands although there are only exiguous quantities of pigs for slaughter on offer. Yet, last week’s 6-cent price decrease had not been quite as severe there as that in Germany. In Spain, the quantities of pigs for slaughter on offer are slightly exceeding demand; nevertheless, the price is maintained on an unchanged level there. In France, the quotation remains unchanged as a consequence of modest supply of pigs mature for slaughter.

Trend: With the situation on the slaughter pig market being well balanced currently and slaughter weights slightly decreasing, the pig market proves to be stabilising again. Thus, the prices are expected to remain unchanged this week.
