Record Red Meat Production for June

US - Commercial red meat production for the United States totalled 4.18 billion pounds in June, up slightly from the 4.16 billion pounds produced in June 2009, according to the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) in their Livestock Slaughter report.

Pork production totalled 1.83 billion pounds, down one per cent from the previous year.

Hog kill totalled 9.04 million head, down one per cent from June 2009.

The average live weight was up two pounds from the previous year, at 271 pounds.

January to June 2010 commercial red meat production was 23.9 billion pounds, down two per cent from 2009.

Accumulated pork production was down three per cent from last year.

Both June 2009 and June 2010 contained 22 weekdays (including no holidays) and four Saturdays.
